Commencement

Event Information

Hello Preuss Community,

Please join us as we celebrate our seniors at the UCSD Epstein Family Amphitheater on June 17 @ 10:00am 🎓

  • Doors will open at 9am for seating. Detailed instructions for parking, shuttles, trolley routes and maps will be shared later this week.
  • All seniors are expected to report at 9am for lining up in the procession. Seniors should leave their phones with their families before checking in for graduation.
  • You are welcome to bring as many guests as you would like to graduation! No RSVP is required!
  • Seniors do NOT need to pay for caps and gowns. Preuss will purchase them for seniors and they will be delivered to students the week before graduation. Students are allowed to keep the caps and gowns, and will not need to return them to Preuss.
  • Seniors are ONLY allowed to wear Preuss-issued stoles, sashes, and cords during the ceremony. We ask that families and friends hold on to additional sashes, cords, leis, and stoles until after the ceremony.
  • Preuss has hired photographers to capture photos of each senior during the ceremony. Details about purchasing graduation photos will come in a future post.

We look forward to hosting you for a joyous celebration on June 17th!

Bag Policy & Prohibited Items

UC San Diego has a clear bag policy at all commencement ceremonies taking place on campus. Please see their policy below:

A clear bag policy is in effect for Commencement 2026 to enhance public safety and streamline the screening and entry process. This policy restricts the size and types of bags allowed.

Bags must be clear plastic or clear vinyl and may not exceed 16" x 8" x 16" or a one-gallon clear plastic zipper bag. Small bags, clutches, or wallets no larger than 4.5" x 6.5" will be allowed.

All approved bags are subject to inspection upon entry, and guests are encouraged to keep items visible for a quicker process. Importantly, the policy does not restrict essential items such as keys, makeup, phones, and wallets, which guests can carry in their pockets. Anyone with prohibited items will be required to return them to their vehicle, place them in a rental locker, or dispose of them at the gate.

Guests with medically necessary items may enter at any gate/entrance but will be subject to additional screening. Supervisors at each entrance will assist with the process.

Diaper bags up to 16" x 8" x 16" are permitted, but will be subject to screening. You must have the infant(s) for which the diaper bag is being carried present when the diaper bag is screened.
