Commencement Information

UC San Diego has a clear bag policy at all commencement ceremonies taking place on campus. Please see their policy below:

A clear bag policy is in effect for Commencement 2026 to enhance public safety and streamline the screening and entry process. This policy restricts the size and types of bags allowed.

Bags must be clear plastic or clear vinyl and may not exceed 16" x 8" x 16" or a one-gallon clear plastic zipper bag. Small bags, clutches, or wallets no larger than 4.5" x 6.5" will be allowed.

All approved bags are subject to inspection upon entry, and guests are encouraged to keep items visible for a quicker process. Importantly, the policy does not restrict essential items such as keys, makeup, phones, and wallets, which guests can carry in their pockets. Anyone with prohibited items will be required to return them to their vehicle, place them in a rental locker, or dispose of them at the gate. A list of prohibited items can be found here.

Guests with medically necessary items may enter at any gate/entrance but will be subject to additional screening. Supervisors at each entrance will assist with the process.

Diaper bags up to 16" x 8" x 16" are permitted, but will be subject to screening. You must have the infant(s) for which the diaper bag is being carried present when the diaper bag is screened.
