Text Box: December is here and in a few weeks we will be ushering in the New Year. How quickly the year goes by. I want to highlight some activities and people that are making this the outstanding school that it is and mention an important idea to start discussing.
Seniors
It has been a wonderful year so far. We are right on target for our seniors with 100% of them meeting the deadline for University of California and California State University applications. Already, our seniors are being accepted early to many CSU’s. The University of California system will probably notify our seniors toward the end of March and early April. Our Academic advisor for 11th and 12th grade, Mr. Phil Ensberg and the two Text Box: advisory teachers, Ms. Season Mussey and Mr. Jeff Major are to be congratulated for their hard work. Mr. Ensberg arranged for help from Thurgood Marshall College to help seniors in the final application process. Most seniors felt that the school and the extra help really provided them with the extra assistance to get their applications in on time. Next up are applications for private universities. Many are due after the holidays but some are due before the break. This is a very busy time for the class of 2007!
Parent Science Day
Parents enjoyed some outstanding presentations at the last parent meeting. Andrea Chiba, a cognitive Text Box: scientist from the university presented on the human brain and how we learn, and Russ Chapman, a professor from Scripps Institute shared his research on algae. It was a fantastic opportunity for parents to learn first hand about scientific research in two very different areas and at the same time enjoy the benefits of having their child at The Preuss School.
Parent Leadership
I want to give kudos to our parent council under the leadership of Mujabeen Usman. Parent memberships are up and attendance at the meetings is growing. We have a planned list of speakers and activities Text Box: News from our Principal-Director

Text Box: Thanks to your support, we had a great turnout of 221 parents at our November 18 Parent Meeting. We already kicked off our PTA Membership drive for 2006-2007, but you still can join us and become a member. Your membership will give Text Box: you a voice for your children, and will help student programs and needs. You will also receive 1 hour of volunteer time.
Our Scholastic Book Fair was a great success. We raised $606.00 for our school library. This was the ideal time for parents and teachers to do their shopping for the holidays and make sure ththeytheour Text Box: 9500 Gilman Drive, La Jolla CA 92093-0536 Main Phone Line (858)658-7400
