Parent Council President’s Message

Dear Preuss Parents and Visitors:

Hello and Welcome to the 2008-2009 Preuss school year! My name is Brian Norquist, your PTA President for this school year. I’m looking forward to working with all the great parents and PTA members here at Preuss.

To those parents new to Preuss this year, I send out a very special welcome from all the hardworking volunteers in the PTA. We need your energy and assistance to keep our kids’ school one of the highest ranked schools in the nation!

As you all know by now, Preuss has a parent volunteer requirement of 15 service hours each year, but this is easily met by joining the PTA. Each month during the school year we have a General Parent Meeting in which you can earn hours just for attending.

A special hello and thank you goes to all the past PTA presidents, officers, and volunteers, who have helped this school to be one of the best in the nation. Your help and guidance is very much appreciated. And, for those of you interested in becoming more involved, please stop by and talk to me or one of the PTA officers. We always have need of people willing to take up the leadership of the PTA, as we cannot function without new volunteers.

The Preuss PTA plays several important roles; the officers meet with the Preuss staff and Board of Directors to help plan the school year, we are involved with school policy, and organize many of the school events. But most importantly, we help raise funds that go towards student activities and transportation.

This last item is the most critical issue facing Preuss in the coming years. Transportation costs have greatly increased, and we have had to find new ways to supply buses and drivers. As you all know, a large percent of Preuss students ride buses to school each day. This service is free to Preuss students, but not free to the school. In return for this essential service, I ask that each and every one of you consider joining the PTA. Your membership fees and efforts help to pay for this indispensable service.

In closing, I must say a few words about our kids. I have had the pleasure of working with many of the school clubs, sports and academic teams at Preuss. I’ve seen our kids on trips to Disneyland, to museums, and college interviews, and can’t strongly enough shout out their praise. We truly have the best and brightest kids, always polite to a fault and willing to give of themselves. As parents, you should all be very proud of our Preuss kids!

Respectfully,

Brian Norquist
