Welcome to the 2009-10 academic year. This will be our tenth year as a school! I was a founding faculty member ten years ago, but it seems like yesterday. In these ten years we have graduated five classes and each one of those classes has been successful in being admitted to colleges and universities--both public and private. For the second year in a row, 96% of our graduates were admitted to a four-year college or university.
The Leadership Team is made up of myself, Vice Principal Pete Selleck, Chief Administrative Officer Jay Anderson, High School Counselor Jennifer Nieto, Middle School Counselor Erin Patrick, Business Manager Caesar Dispo and Human Resource Manager Steve Halvorson. The Leadership Team, together with the Instructional Support Team and our faculty and staff, continually work to support our students in their quest to attend a four year college or university.
The Preuss School UCSD is designed as an intensive college preparatory educational program. Through tutor-assisted teaching, a single-track college preparatory curriculum, small classes, and extensive use of technology, the goal is to create a highly enriched secondary school. The Preuss School UCSD will prepare the graduates to distinguish themselves academically so that they will be competitively eligible at the University of California and other similar selective institutions of higher learning.
Above all, The Preuss School UCSD must provide an environment where students are continually encouraged and empowered to develop a greater sense of confidence and self-worth through self-sufficiency and pride in their academic accomplishments. The school will foster a culture of high academic performance in an environment that encourages intellectual risk-taking. Students will be taught the art of questioning and logical and critical thinking. The intention of The Preuss School UCSD experience also will be deemed successful if it stimulates graduates to enjoy a lifelong intellectual curiosity and dedication to continued learning.
The Preuss School UCSD also has as its mission the development of personal character, healthy lifestyles, good judgment, and ethical behavior. The family, community institutions, and the school share responsibility for encouraging young people to develop both as scholars and as citizens.
Sincerely,
Scott Barton
